SoHo Update

After much delay with permits and leases, my mom's new store, Southern Home & Kitchen, is starting to take shape!  Last time I had been in the space, it was not much to look at.  But with finished floors, painted walls, and shelving going up, you can see there's potential for a real store now.

actual opening...probably more like June 21st (or whenever baby G is born) - we like to keep things interesting
store colors will be this Sea Salt (on the walls), gray, and punches of orange
the 10-foot marble check-out counter was a major find in Greensboro, but it looks like it may have come from Dewey's Bakery (which is a few doors down in Thruway) originally
lots of shelving and wall tracks for the kitchen area
The only downside to this whole thing is that I can't be there to see every bit of progress and to help out.  I'm just hoping baby G comes before SoHo opens so that my parents get some time with their first grandchild before getting swept up in the store opening!

Don't Panic...

Tomorrow I'll be 34 weeks pregnant.  And my house is a wreck.

After living in our new house for about 2 weeks, we have finally completed the transition from our old house in Ardmore.  Since the rain held out for a few days this week, Locke and my kind, kind family (Mom, Dad, and Jane, to be exact) hauled our remaining furniture and possessions with the help of 2 cars and 1 truck.  Did I mention a major perk of pregnancy is that you can't lift things?  I feel guilty I couldn't help, but let's be honest, not that guilty...

So now everything we own is in one place.  And that one place is the floor.  It's a bit overwhelming to look at how much junk we've accumulated, but I can't give up my books, especially the ancient Greek ones from undergrad!  You never know when I might need to know my ancient Greek grammar again.

I'm trying to tell myself not to panic.  But it's hard when this is what you walk into now:

I keep praying that our little baby decides to wait until I can at least walk through the house without the fear of tripping over something before he makes an appearance.  I'm sure one day Locke and I will look back at this and wonder why in the world we thought we should move right before the birth of our first child... Luckily, being pregnant means you have to put your feet up and rest quite often, so I get to take lots of mini breaks from the onerous task of fretting over unpacking.

Good thing I have a most wonderful husband to help me through this!

My Best Friends' Wedding

There is no better wedding than one in which two of your closest friends get hitched.  Andrew Cash and Kelley finally got married this past weekend in Pinehurst, and we couldn't have had more fun celebrating them.  You could just feel the warmth, love, and happiness radiating from them and their families the entire weekend.

Highlights included:
- renting a house and cramming 9 WFU alums into it for the weekend
- girls going to the Pinehurst spa (di-vine!) while boys golf
- reuniting with friends we haven't seen nearly enough recently (I'm talking about you, Brandon, Jay, and Whitney!)
- sentimental yet wonderful toasts at the rehearsal dinner; let's just say I hope our little boy grows up to be just like his uncle Andrew
- a mobile Jubala Coffee (Cash's coffee shop) at the reception and coffee beans as a favor

I took a couple hundred photos, but I guess that's what happens when you're pregnant and can't dance (easily, at least).  Here are some of my favorites.

Cheers to one of my all-time favorite couples!  May your marriage be as happy and wonderful as the weekend itself was.

The Big Move

We finally moved!  After owning 2 houses for about 3 months, Locke and I decided we were sick of constantly cleaning our old house for showings and were ready to start setting up house at our new residence.  Almost 2 weeks ago (right, I'm a little behind) Locke borrowed my dad, his truck, and Matt Cline to move our bedroom and kitchen across town to the new house.  We left most everything else at our old house so that it wouldn't look empty, and we've been busy trying to organize what we did bring with us since then.

I'm glad we moved when we did, because Locke and I haven't spent much time together since then due to our schedules.  Also, all of our baby stuff (crib, stroller, car seat, clothes, etc.) is here at our new place, so it makes me feel at ease knowing that we're more prepared in case this little guy decides to come early.  I will be 33 weeks pregnant (?!?!) on Friday, so you just never know....

Our empty old house (above) makes me a little sad!  And I will certainly miss my backyard; all the flowers I've planted over the 4 years we were there are starting to come back, and I wish I could see them come into bloom!  I may go cut those peonies when they come in if the house hasn't sold by then.

I didn't take any pictures of our move (mostly because Locke and my dad did it all while I was at school; important sidenote: being pregnant during a big move means no lifting, so if you don't like schlepping boxes...get pregnant! Just kidding....), so all you get is a picture of our stack of empty boxes.  Mind you, we only moved 2 rooms from our old house, so we still have a long way to go.  Let's hope it doesn't take another 3 months before we relocate the rest of our belongings to our new residence.

Baby Shower

I am lucky to have made such wonderful friends in Winston-Salem.  Today I was just overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness and love that went into the baby shower that my friends Meg and Caroline hosted for me and the little guy.  There are few times in life when friends and family gather together in one place to celebrate with you, and today was one of those rare jewels.  There's no better party than one with all the people you love.

I'll let the pictures do the talking now.
